Donald Trump has chosen to abstain from the inaugural Republican primary debate. The former president, who has until August 25th to respond to charges in Georgia concerning his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, had initially promised a significant press conference on August 21st before ultimately reversing his decision.

In a move hardly surprising to observers, Trump’s supporters remain steadfast in their defense of their leader, perceiving him as a victim of political conspiracy. Following his indictment by a Georgia grand jury, the prosecuting attorney and jury members have faced threats and abuse. These developments prompted the sheriff’s office and the FBI to launch an investigation and bolster security measures around the courthouse staff.

Concurrently, Donald Trump’s legal team is striving to transfer the case to a federal court, as reported by our correspondent in New York, Loubna Anaki. If successful, and if Trump is eventually convicted, this could theoretically provide an avenue for him to extricate himself from the situation should he win a presidential election. Nonetheless, experts suggest the feasibility of such a scenario is limited. This procedure is likely to prolong the legal proceedings in Georgia, aligning with Trump’s apparent tactic of playing for time to avert trials before the upcoming presidential race.

On Sunday, August 20th, former US President Donald Trump also confirmed his absence from the Republican Party primary debates, with the first scheduled for Wednesday. Trump stated on his platform, Truth Social, “The public knows who I am and the successful presidency I had—energy independence, strong borders, a robust military, historic tax and regulation cuts, no inflation, the strongest economy in history, and much more.”

With five months remaining before the commencement of the primaries, which will determine the Republican nominee for the 2024 US presidential election, Donald Trump continues to command unwavering support from his base, stronger than ever before.
