NATO’s praise of the Turkish role as a partner and ally of exceptional importance reflects the return of the US President Joe Biden’s administration to political realism in terms of engineering new relations with Turkey – Erdogan, and despite Joe Biden’s pledge during his presidential campaign to support the Turkish opposition to topple Erdogan, it is unlikely that he will Joe Biden will implement his pledges, as no one in Washington is ignorant that Turkey is a basic and important ally of the United States, in Afghan, European and other affairs, but there is resentment over Turkey’s actions in many regional and international files, as Erdogan does not hide his adoption of the policy of “personalizing” relations, let alone On Erdogan’s internal practices of suppressing and restricting freedoms, as well as the endless arrest campaigns during the attempted coup against him, and many of the issues that are raised in Washington and viewed with suspicion; All this puts Erdogan in a farther rank than an ally, but an American must stick to him as a partner in other issues that the US administration addresses, and it sees Erdogan’s personality as the superior geostrategic player, but within the limits of its agenda.

In the depth of Turkish politics, and in sympathy with the American administration’s view of Erdogan as a geo-strategic player, there is a basic point that cannot be ignored. It is based on the main circles of crisis in Ankara’s foreign policies, starting with the American circle, passing through the European circle, and ending with the Arab circle, despite It is one of the timid attempts through Turkish openness to reduce tension in various circles, but the most difficult test remains related to the response of the parties concerned in these circles to Erdogan’s policies; As Turkey pursues a clear repositioning policy in external files, accompanied by a desire to adopt a new strategy of action that includes flexibility and pragmatism, and a pragmatic and realistic approach that adopts more diplomatic dialogues, and accordingly, the Government of Justice and Development is conducting a comprehensive and radical review of the way it deals with most regional and international files.

On a parallel side, Recep Tayyip Erdogan seeks to strengthen and strengthen the Turkish interior in the next stage, which will open the way further for the Justice and Development government to embark on a journey to resolve foreign files, especially since Erdogan realizes that it is not possible to bet on regional and international action, without having to The Turkish interior will be coherent, strong, and prepared to deal with all these challenges, in addition to partly the American resentment regarding Erdogan’s practices, and it is clear that Recep Tayyip Erdogan seeks to restore his regional and international relations, and he sets out to reach this approach from determinants whose parts are based on a number of transformations It is directly related to ambitious visions related to Turkey becoming a major regional power, having an influence in the neighboring regions, and an effective role in the international arena, and these visions were crystallized in a strategy that was intellectually based on the theories and concepts of geopolitics to give central importance to Ankara’s role and its regional and international standing.

After years of interventions framed with a military dimension, Erdogan finds himself facing a new regional and international reality, and it is necessary to identify with these developments and to a deeper description. The rapid developments at the regional and international levels have produced a new environment that Turkey viewed from two sides:

The first – in terms of its policies; There are signs of reconsidering some policies, especially after the many problems that Turkey has been exposed to in the region.

The second – in terms of its ambitious geopolitical perceptions; Between these ambitious perceptions and the restrictive policies since 2011, the momentum of the central state and the decisive or major power has receded, and it seemed that there were internal and external moral and material restrictions that limit its impact.

Turgut Ozal, the first Turkish prime minister, showed special interest in the Turkish neighborhood, whether in the Arab world, the Caucasus or the Balkans, but Recep Tayyip Erdogan, since 2002, took this interest to an unprecedented level, especially after the coup attempt in 2016, and this interest was reinforced With economic power and superior unity in the Turkish state machine, in a number of features of the Turkish foreign policy, and the policy towards the Turkish neighborhood in particular, the most prominent of these features can be summarized based on Ozal’s policy, and Erdogan’s reliance on his concepts:

First – that Turkey’s interests are not limited to the relationship with the European West, but also include Turkey’s regional neighborhood, especially the countries that have cultural or ethnic heritage with Turkey. At the heart of these interests are political and historical commitments, economic and financial prospects, and necessities imposed by Turkish national security.

Second – that Turkey is too big to rely on the role that the Western allies are designating for it, whether as a defensive position in front of the “Russian, today” Soviet expansionist trends, or as a bridge linking Europe with Central Asia and the Middle East. Turkey’s historical roots, cultural and political weight, and its geopolitical position require it to undertake a leadership role in its three neighborhood wings: the Middle East, the Caucasus, and the Balkans.

Third – that Turkey should not accept the fait accompli, no matter what time this reality settled in, and even if major Western powers stood behind it.

Fourth – that Turkey should support its positions and express its interests with a tangible and witnessed move on the ground, not just declarations. Without military, economic, or investment action, the declared positions will not have an effective impact on the balance of power and the scramble for interests.

Fifthly – for Turkey to play its role and protect its position, it must have friends and allies in the regional neighborhood, and it must always work to increase the number of allies and friends. But these alliances cannot be preserved without Turkey fulfilling its obligations towards its allies, standing with them in the face of the dangers threatening them, and defending their vital interests as well as defending its interests.

These are the main features of what could be called “Erdogan’s principle”, which characterized the entirety of his policies in Syria and Libya, reaching the limits of Russian space. However, this policy brought complex and complex crises to the Turkish Sultan, which means that the adoption of these policies did not achieve success or achievement of Erdogan’s goals. Which he engineered using Turgut Ozal’s visualizations.

In conclusion, it is true that Turkey is a regional power that has an influence on the course of developments in the region, but it is also true that Turkey belongs to a region that has witnessed transformations, conflicts and sharp clashes, in sympathy with the transformation of this region into an arena of international conflict that is not limited by clear indications in terms of tracks of appeasement or solutions, all of that. Erdogan has faced two challenges, the first is Erdogan’s ability to overtake heavyweight players, who are effective and influential in crises, one of whose pillars is Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the second is Turkey’s inability to over-shoulder the burdens of the Turkish role and the distinguished geostrategic position, especially as overbearing The burdens of the role and the position, historically resulted in regional and international powers, and led to collapses, decline and even extinction, so does Recep Tayyip Erdogan draw lessons from the historical lessons he read about?
