Noredine Riahi, One of the pillars in the Moroccan judicial system

Noredine Riahi knew how to inscribe his name in golden letters in the legal environment in Morocco. in 1979, he left the University of Strasbourg after being the first Moroccan to enrol in the doctoral cycle, following the positive appreciation of the committee then made up of some of the biggest names in jurisprudence and French law. He subsequently joined the judiciary in his native country, and more precisely the Procurator-General Position in Casablanca, where he spent 40 years, climbing the different levels one by one, from the position of Procurator-General to the general prosecutor of the king, in the largest city in the kingdom of Morocco after having only spent twelve years in his position as Procurator-General.

Since the 1980s, several media outlets have followed the cases which was linked to Mr Riahi because he was specialist in the high level cases and the major court decisions. At the same time, he was also known for his literary skills and his contributions to the Arabic literature as well as philosophy and poetry, and more particularly those of the Egyptian review Alhilal where he won a literature prize the outlet gave him the nickname: “The young Moroccan literature author”

His legal analysis and his eloquence, as well as the beauty of his statements have also been noted in Europe especially by the French Council of State. Noredine Riahi had in fact been part of the first delegation of Moroccan magistrates, sent on the king’s order, to prepare the establishment of the administrative courts and the French Court of Cassation, as well as the Spanish Supreme Court. He remained an active member for several years, and more specifically within the Moroccan-Spanish committee. Mr Riahi has had the privilege of participating in the translation from Arabic to French of more than 200 major court decisions. Without forgetting its numerous participations in major international congresses of magistrates.

In 1992, King Hassan II appointed him president of a regional election control commission, making him the youngest commission president at the time. He was only 34 years old. His work has won praise from all representatives of political parties and authorities because of his management skills and his reports published by the National Commission.

Noredine Riahi was also praised by his friends who made him several times a leader and a spokesperson for several professional associations in the judicial sector. He argued for the independence of the judiciary and that of the prosecution. He has also worked for the right of magistrates to expression and the creation of independent associations.

After a creative career in the judiciary, Riyahi finally joined the rank of lawyers, a profession he also particularly likes. The Bar Association of Casablanca has also expressed their pride to have such a man in their rank ,who can only be of great added value for the Bar Association.
