Amidst a brutal military escalation, the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo in northern Syria are repeatedly targeted by airstrikes from the Syrian regime, Russia, and Iran. These airstrikes and artillery shelling have targeted residential neighborhoods, medical facilities, and camps. These crimes are part of a systematic campaign aiming to destroy the foundations of life and terrorize civilians, in flagrant violation of international laws and humanitarian principles.

Details of the Massacres in Idlib:

On Monday, December 2, the city of Idlib and its countryside witnessed a bloody day. Airstrikes killed 25 civilians, including 14 children and 4 women, and injured 54 others, including 18 children and 12 women. These attacks targeted residential areas, displaced persons’ camps, and healthcare centers, causing widespread destruction and heavy loss of life.

  • Targeting Wadi Khaled Camp: Eight civilians from a single family, including seven children and a woman, were killed in an attack on the camp north of Idlib.
  • Al-Thawra Neighborhood: Another massacre claimed the lives of six civilians and injured 30 others, including children and women.
  • Hospitals Under Attack: Russian warplanes targeted a group of healthcare centers in Idlib, including the University Hospital, causing patient deaths due to the shutdown of medical equipment in what amounts to a heinous war crime.

Aleppo Under Fire:

In Aleppo, airstrikes and artillery shelling targeted residential neighborhoods and vital facilities, injuring 12 civilians, including children and women. The University Hospital in Al-Furqan neighborhood suffered a direct hit, resulting in several casualties and extensive damage to the building.

Horrifying Toll Over Six Days:

Between November 27 and December 2, the military escalation in Idlib and Aleppo has resulted in:

  • 81 civilian deaths: Including 34 children and 12 women.
  • 304 injuries: Including 120 children and 78 women.

Urgent Humanitarian Appeal:

As winter begins with a shortage of heating materials and bread, an imminent humanitarian catastrophe looms, necessitating immediate international intervention. The targeting of hospitals and camps constitutes a comprehensive war crime aiming to deprive civilians of their basic rights to life and medical care. We call on the United Nations, human rights organizations, and free media outlets to shed light on these horrific crimes and hold the perpetrators accountable. We urge the international community to intervene to protect civilians, impose severe sanctions on Russia, and counter Iranian militias threatening peace and stability in the Middle East in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.

Message of Resilience:

These heinous crimes will not deter the Syrian people from holding on to their legitimate right to freedom and dignity, nor from reclaiming their land. The resilience of survivors and the voices of the victims will remain a living testament to the scale of suffering and the unwavering determination to build a better future.

The Syrian people, aspiring to live peacefully in a civil state founded on justice and human rights, bear no animosity toward any nation. However, they unequivocally reject the Russian occupation, Iranian militias, Hezbollah, and the Assad regime. Hope remains in the will of free Syrians to liberate their homeland and rebuild a secure and just Syria for all its citizens.
