expert on Syrian and Middle Eastern affairs.
It is no secret to anyone that relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia have not been good for a long time, as the recent events between the two countries, specifically following the reconciliation agreement between them under the auspices of China, indicate qualitative paths and developments, in addition to the reflection of stability between the two countries on all Middle Eastern files, where relations are progressing. Iranian-Saudi Arabia is on the path to development after restoring relations between them.
A translation of the above came through a statement by the Iranian ambassador in Riyadh, where Ali Reza Enayati, Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, wrote about this on the social page “In the direction of expanding relations between the two countries in the fields of security and law enforcement, including various dimensions of bilateral cooperation and activating the border guard and drug control committees, and other subcommittees.”
The return of Saudi-Iranian relations includes various fields and departments, and given that Tehran and Riyadh are two regional powers with effective and influential regional policies, this matter will be directly reflected in multiple files such as security, the economy, and other files.
In connection with the above, the American withdrawal from Afghanistan created a security vacuum and a margin through which terrorism could return. Therefore, the issue of regional security for Iran and Saudi Arabia is considered the most important area of cooperation between the two sides, especially since Washington has lost the confidence of its allies, especially Saudi Arabia, regarding strategic cooperation with the United States. United States, and this also applies to Washington’s strategic partners in the region, as reliance on America and other Western partners no longer falls within the framework of strategic equations. Therefore, the Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia, have tended during the past few years towards non-Western blocs such as China and Russia. And recently Iran.
In the same context, Saudi Arabia is trying to develop security relations with Tehran, to ensure that the two countries do not pose any threat to each other in the midst of developments in the region, regardless of Iran’s support for resistance movements, but implicitly Saudi Arabia has interests through this support, specifically in curbing the United States. Even Israel, meaning that Saudi Arabia is looking for a way out of the American pressures related to normalization with Israel, especially since Saudi Arabia and what it represents from a religious dimension, cannot take that step, so that the agreement with Iran to engineer the region’s files would be a way out for it.
On the other hand, expanding relations between Tehran and Riyadh has economic benefits for both sides, given the climatic conditions of Saudi Arabia. Iranian food and agricultural products, along with steel, are among the main options that can help develop economic relations between the two countries.
With regard to economic and trade issues, one of the main areas of cooperation opportunities between Saudi Arabia and Iran is investment in the Iranian energy sector, and this matter may lead to greater cooperation between Iran and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), as the member states of the organization realize that sometimes… Compromises are needed to reach consensus.
In this situation, and given the huge reserves of oil and gas, Iran’s most important goal is to restore its position in OPEC, because the current level of oil exports does not meet this country’s standards.
Despite the challenges, both countries have significant oil and gas reserves and can benefit from joint investment and partnership. In addition, increasing investment in the Iranian oil industry – including the exploration, development and exploitation of oil and gas fields – is important, given that the average The lifespan of Iran’s oil infrastructure is high, and the major oil fields are entering the second half of their economic life.
Of course, if sanctions on Iran continue, Saudi Arabia may be interested in purchasing some Iranian petrochemical products, purchasing primary petrochemical products from there, converting them into finished products and selling them on the market.
The reality of the situation confirms that Saudi-Iranian relations have positive repercussions on the two countries first, and later on the Middle East files. Today, the ability of Iran and Saudi Arabia to organize very important security, political, and economic equations is evident, which will have a significant impact on the state of stability in the region, despite attempts to… The United States has decided to create a state of instability, and despite the developments in Palestine, the two poles of the Middle East, Iran and Saudi Arabia, are active and influential factors in engineering new regional realities that will be the symbol of long-term stability.
